I am originally from Melbourne Australia, and have been internationally teaching for the last 12 years. I have worked in various countries including Dubai, Germany, Malaysia, Jamaica and South Korea. I am a Humanities/Economics trained educator and have experienced various roles in my career including, head of department in Humanities, IBCP coordinator, IBDP coordinator, MYP coordinator and now head of department of Theory of Knowledge. I have been very active in promoting the IBCP as an alternate pathway since I helped introduce it at Bavarian International School, having most recently presented on the IBCP at the IB Annual Conference in Daegu, South Korea in April last year. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and my presentation here at AGIS is designed to get educators to reconsider effective evidence based teaching practice - that perhaps variations of explicit teaching and direct learning need to be refined and readopted like they have been in Australia in order to improve academic results and knowledge retention.
