I am currently in my tenth year at Heidelberg International School. I have spent the last 23 years working in educational consulting, mentoring, counselling and student support roles. My primarily focus is the provision of pastoral care and social emotional counselling. I regularly provide solution focused brief counselling in our community, working individually with adolescents, parents throughout the whole school and also with teachers and leadership to provide more access to the curriculum and strategies to foster healthy relationships between peers. I enjoy helping educators come up with ways to look at traditional models differently. This is often achieved when someone looks at a system of learning and evaluates it from the perspective of the student in need. Lately, I have been paying special attention to the impact of skill building and effective solution focused practice to partner with parents for lasting success. I am looking forward to sharing some of the insights I have shared with our school community in another workshop session at AGIS. This is my third time speaking at AGIS and I am also a member of the AGIS Counsellor's Working Group. This year, I will present alongside our MYP Coordinator, Sarah Al-Benna. We hope to lead a best practice discussion on how MYP Coordination can work closely with Counselling to organise professional development for staff, in addition to addressing ATL and Social Emotional Topics in the MYP Curriculum.
